In Acts 15, Peter tells the Jerusalem Council that he has been appointed to preach to the Gentiles, while in Galatians 2, Paul distinguishes his ministry to the Gentiles from Peter's to the Jews.
I would not say that In Acts 15 Peter speaks of "has been appointed to preach to the Gentiles", which conveys the idea that there was a general appointment to a ministry ... rather Peter simply recalls that he in the early days (and before Paul did in a broader sense) had preached to the Gentiles at Cornelius' house, a more or less one time occurrence at the time.

After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.
