I don't think the Sermon allows for this. We must love God more than violence.

The Apostles and early church lived and died by it. Jesus lived and died according to it leaving us an example to follow. Did he and the Apostles, or early church mislead us?

Luther created serious problems by teaching the doctrine of dual morality. And no doubt this helped in the persecution of the Jews. But I do not think he viewed the Jews as a race. Since scripture clearly teaches there is only one human race. He …

As long as we think God permits evil, we commit ourselves to providing another god who creates it.

What a blessing. I believe the Col. was born again, as evidenced by his works, long before he accepted Jesus as his personal savior. He reminds me of Cornelius the centurion in Acts.

I think many miss the point of loving God unconditionally. It's easy to love a god who permits our suffering and empathises with us. But can you love God who sends your affliction? Who destroys your family as he did with Job? And can stop your su…

I agree. One of the biggest problems I have with contemporary Reformed Theology is the contradictions they build into their own systems to trip over.
While I've profited from many of them, I've found just a simple reading of th…

This is where I disagree with Ravi and with this view in general. It turns love into an act of the will instead of recognising it as a condition of the heart. A loving heart makes loving choices. But if a heart must choose to love, it …

To limit anti-semitism to the Jews is to say only they are Shem's offspring. When in fact, Jewishness is a religion and most of the Arab world comes from Shem. In fact, many argue that the Palestinians have more of Shem's DNA than the eastern eur…

The bible is not racist since Paul clearly says God made of one blood all nations. So Luther probably launched his tirades against the Jews as he did the Anabaptists and anyone else he considered a false religion. As far as I remember he welcomed…

Thanks! Interesting. I thought both did a good job presenting their views. I see evil somewhat differently. I believe God is presently creating the people for the new heavens and earth where evil will not exist. Where Jesus will be fully recogniz…

Thanks, really interesting. I think RC gave the classic Reformed view. And Ravi gave one of the secular positions. I think we can learn much from science when we place it in subjection to the scriptures. One of my favorite Scientists on Determini…

I think the Bible (66 books) is God's Word even as translated over the centuries. But it is a labyrinth of contradictions and dead ends to many by design. The problem is in missing the big picture while straining at the details.

I'm just saying the Sermon on the Mount separates the men from the boys.

If the Sabbath was based on 24 hour days, and Creation based on 6 literal days according to Jesus, why would Jesus not have been in the grave for 72 hours?

No, my world was far more simple. We didn't deal with what kids deal with today. The most offensive weapon we ever heard of was a zip gun. If I ever did go to church, I packed a squirt gun in a shoulder holster under my top coat.

I don't know if you've seen the movie A Christmas Story. But back in the day it was BB Guns that did all of the above.

Thanks for sharing this unsettling experience. I know many would see this as a reason to arm teachers, or even students as they do in some colleges. But I think it also underscores the insanity of arming anyone. Scripture teaches that we are all …

Thanks. Interesting. But the Sermon is about loving Jesus and all he taught more than we love our own families and our own lives.

What about the six days of creation? were they literal days? What about keeping the Sabbath on the seventh day? These passages define what scripture means by Days. So, how would 3 days and nights not be 72 hours?

Without giving it too much thought, I always assumed if the woman was guilty she would develop a psychosomatic illness.

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:38–39)

How can you follow Jesus (the Sermon on the Mount) and the violent mindset of the NRA? How can we as Christians endorse any form of violence or organizations whose sole purpose is to meet violence with violence?

Christians should point others in the direction of the Sermon on the Mount, not encourage them to join or support groups that do the opposite.
